Job Description

A skilled Sign Language Interpreter is needed to provide 1:1 support for an elementary school student during a leave coverage assignment. This contract position runs from July 1st through August 13th, with weekday hours from 7:45 AM to 1:45 PM, totaling 30 hours per week. The role focuses on supporting a 3rd-grade student who spends part of the day with the Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (TDHH) and the remainder in a general education classroom.

This assignment is ideal for professionals based in or near Douglasville, GA, with flexibility to serve surrounding areas including Atlanta, GA. The position requires strong experience in sign language interpretation, particularly in educational settings, to promote clear communication and access to curriculum.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver 1:1 sign language interpretation services tailored to support a 3rd-grade students needs.
  • Facilitate effective communication between the student, TDHH, teachers, and peers across different classroom environments.
  • Collaborate with educational staff to ensure the student's engagement and comprehension during both specialized instruction and general education activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct consistent with educational and ethical standards.

Qualifications:

  • Proven expertise as a Sign Language Interpreter in K-12 educational settings.
  • Knowledge of deaf education and appropriate interpretation strategies for school-aged children.
  • Ability to adapt interpreting techniques to various classroom environments.
