Description: Full Time Associate ChaplainPastoral Care

History/Description of Bishop Gadsden

Founded in 1850, Bishop Gadsden Episcopal Retirement Community is the leading not-for-profit, faith-based senior living community in the Southeast serving some 500 residents and over 400 team members. It is located on 125 acres of lush marshlands and majestic oaks on James Island, just 10 minutes from historic downtown Charleston, one of the most vibrant small cities in the US with exceptional arts and culture, healthcare, and educational resources.

Nationally recognized for its architectural design and innovative programs and services, Bishop Gadsden offers amenities including inventive culinary options, exceptional fitness and wellness facilities/programming, and the highest quality rehab and health care. Bishop Gadsden was named the 2018 Philanthropic Organization of the Year in recognition of the Community’s exceptional contributions to charitable efforts in the Charleston area as well as charity care for its residents. Here, residents and team members alike enjoy the supportive culture that encourages all to live, learn, grow, and contribute.

Something “Different…”

Throughout the Bishop Gadsden Community, you will often hear it said that there is “something different about this place”. A uniqueness is widely recognized, a special quality that evokes welcome, belonging, dignity, and above all, a distinct sense of joyful community. Whether a first-time visitor, veteran staff member, new resident or long-time family member, this sentiment is universally felt yet hard to articulate. What comprises the Bishop Gadsden community culture is a special combination of values and behaviors, the “BG Way”, that encompass our community life together.

Mission

Our mission provides the foundation. It is our unifying and guiding statement of purpose, beginning with our God-given call to ministry and ending with an intention to generously share this ministry with others. It reminds us that our individuality is always respected and supported, and that our moral and ethical obligations, both individually and collectively, grow out of joyful service.

Bishop Gadsden’s Trustees, Management, residents and team members rely on the Bishop Gadsden Mission Statement as a guide for decision-making, resource allocation, and ethical and behavior standards. It states:

Bishop Gadsden, a Life Care senior living community, embraces God’s call to ministry.

We affirm positive living for all who live and work here.

We serve with integrity.

We exercise wise stewardship.

We reach out with a generous spirit.
