JOB SUMMARY Under the supervision of administrative staff, provides school audiological services to students who have disabilities, suspected of having disabilities, or in need of specialized health care services.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This job has/has no supervisory responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - Provides complete diagnostic audiological evaluations (including standard audiometry, OAEs, and acoustic reflex threshold testing), hearing aid and/or FM evaluations and auditory processing evaluations to all students referred.
- Provides annual re-evaluations.
- Provides FM selection, fitting and verification (including Real Ear Measurement and Simulated REM.
- Provides in-service training for teachers who have hearing impaired students in their classrooms.
- Works in conjunction with all necessary outside agencies (such as Children's Medical Services, DFACS, hearing aid vendors and otologists, etc.)
- Provides training to D/HH teachers, regular teachers and other school personnel to do listening checks, clean/maintain hearing aids and report problems with hearing aids and FM systems.
- Participates in placement committee meetings.
- Maintains accurate student records.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the director.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Master's Degree is required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES - Prerequisite knowledge and skills in Life science, behavioral Sciences, and Mathematics
- Knowledge foundations of practice.
- Knowledge of prevention and identification.
- Competent in the prevention and identification of auditory and vestibular disorders.
- Competent in the evaluation of individuals with suspected disorders of auditory, balance, communication, and related systems.
- Knowledge of treatment(s) and possess competence in the treatment of individuals with auditory, balance, and related communication disorders.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSE AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - GaPSC Certification in Audiology
- Valid Audiologist license issued by the GA Examining Boards Division or a valid Certificate of Clinical Competency in Audiology from the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association (ASHA)
Salary/Terms/Benefits: - 180 day work year.
- Salary based on certification and experience; placement on the Adopted Salary Schedule and position supplement(s).
