Job Summary and Essential Functions This position typically plans and coordinates department tasks; and deals courteously and effectively with fellow employees and citizens.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: - Serves notices of book-keeping rule to show causes, employer hearings, juror
summons, financial documents for the Department of Social Service and other court related documents. - Represents the Clerk of Court's office in hearings on Family Court Rules and assist with Rule to Show Cause court hearings.
- Assists with the preparation of documents for Family Court. Prepare and maintain accurate records regarding service documents for daily reports.
- Maintains a positive working relationship with the Sheriff's department and keep an open line of communication available for assistance.
- Testifies in court on the service process for various cases as required.
- Transports court documents to other courts and agencies as needed.
- Prepares required administrative reports such as mileage, record keeping, vehicle maintenance needs, supplies, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Prepares, maintains and files accurate records as to the service of documents.
- Performs data entry of court documents.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements to Perform Work - High School diploma or equivalent;
- One (1) year related work experience;
- Knowledge of law enforcement and/or courts preferred;
- Must have and maintain a valid South Carolina Driver's License with a safe driving record.
Special Requirements: - Departmental testing may be administered during interview;
- A criminal background check will be completed on selected applicant if a current one (less than 3 years old) is not on file.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Knowledge of a courtroom and legal setting.
- Knowledge of Berkeley County areas highly desirable.
- Knowledge of rules, regulations, laws and procedures relative to Family Court preferred, but not required.
- Must have excellent communication skills and be able to work in a high risk and stressful environment.
- Must have the ability to exercise judgment and discretion in interpreting and applying various legal procedures and maintain working relationships with other courts, law enforcement, and supporting agencies at all levels.
- Knowledge of personal computers.
- Skill in the use of general office equipment.
Physical Demands This position requires the employee to sit and use hands to handle, feel, finger, grasp or operate objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; use mental acuity and repetitive motion; and walk, talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Conditions The work is regularly performed in a relatively safe, secure and stable work environment. Thirty-seven and one half (37.5) hours per week. Normal operating hours are Monday through Friday 9:00am until 5:00pm with the ability to work flexible hours when necessary. Scheduled hours/days, job location, duties and any other information contained herein is subject to change. May be required to work extra hours and to perform extra or different duties during emergency situations.
