Job Posting: Monitoring & Training Specialist

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Monitoring & Training Specialist to oversee monitoring functions for all programs and sub-grantees, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local grants. This role involves conducting desk reviews, on-site monitoring, and providing training on key aspects of each program. The ideal candidate will have experience in grants/contracts, excellent analytical, interpersonal, organizational, and writing skills, and the ability to exercise objectivity, independent judgment, patience, and political acumen.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a monitoring schedule to ensure all programs and sub-grantees are monitored at least annually as required.
  • Provide training sessions to sub-grantees on compliance standards and best practices.
  • Produce written reports on monitoring activities for sub-grantees.
  • Create and oversee performance improvement plans for non-compliant sub-grantees.
  • Stay updated on current program knowledge through training and research.
  • Review grant agreements and standards for ongoing and upcoming programs.
  • Design and implement monitoring tools to ensure compliance with all program requirements.
  • Develop flowcharts, templates, instructional guides, and other tools to assist sub-grantees in meeting compliance standards.
  • Participate in departmental and organizational staff meetings.
  • Maintain organized records of monitoring activities to demonstrate compliance.
  • Serve as a resource for internal and external parties regarding program requirements.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team environment.
  • Adhere to confidentiality standards at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • A degree in a related field or at least two (2) years of relevant work experience preferred.
  • Experience working or volunteering in nonprofit or government settings related to housing or social services preferred.
  • Lived experience with homelessness preferred.
  • Experience working with or knowledge of Veterans or veteran services preferred.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. and provide supporting documentation.
  • Must pass a Level II background check.
  • Must pass a federal-level drug screen (possession of a medical marijuana card is not acceptable under federal law).
  • Clean 3-year driving history required.
  • Must provide proof of auto insurance, have a valid driver’s license, and a registered vehicle without known issues.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of grant management and programmatic variables.
  • Ability to work with diverse individuals and groups on complex community issues.
  • Knowledge of governmental accounting, budgeting, auditing, and financial reporting.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate government regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Office Suite.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to evaluate, audit, and assess data using established criteria.
  • Skilled in problem-solving to address issues effectively.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to engage in continuous learning and training.
  • Professional and political aptitude to navigate complex environments.
