Job Title : Business Development Manager - Soft Swirl Ice Cream

Location : Work from home, live in Midwest, preferably Ohio.

Reports to : VP of Sales

Company and Situation Background:

Soft Swirl is a three-year-old company that has been in the R&D phase of developing its disruptive strategy and innovative proprietary technologies. The soft serve industry has historically struggled with the problems of equipment operations and sanitation problems to which Soft Swirl has developed a clearly recognizable and meaningful solution.

The company is well funded by ice cream industry veterans and a large dairy cooperative. The Executive Staff is comprised of the Past President of Nestle Ice cream, the Past VP of Sales of Nestle Ice Cream and Unilever Ice Cream, the Past VP of Operations of Nestle Dairy Systems, the past GM of Dixie Bell Ice Cream and past CEO of Mochi Ice Cream. 

The company’s five-year plan is to build a very profitable $75M business. Market introduction is happening in the 2nd quarter of 2025 with orders for more than 100 machines in the Northeast quadrant of the United States. This introduction will be followed with a methodical rollout across the country over the next five years.

The Sales organization in 2025 will consist of a VP of Sales and two Regional Business Development Managers. As the company grows so will the number and types of sales roles.

Position Summary

The Business Development Manager will be responsible for driving growth for the Soft Swirl platform by identifying new business opportunities, fostering strong relationships with customers, and executing strategic plans to expand our presence in the Key markets. This role combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution to support in-store equipment sales to achieve revenue and long-term company goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Customer Partnerships :
    • Aggressively identify, prospect, and onboard new customers in food service, including QSR, B&I C&U, K-12, Hospitality, Senior Living, Eatertainment, Recreation, Transportation, and C-Stores.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients to ensure long-term partnerships.
    • Work directly with our specialty Master Ice Cream Distributors and well as broadline sub-distributors and their sales teams to maximize sales opportunities in their geographic markets.
  • Market Strategy :
    • Develop and execute business development strategies to increase the adoption of the Soft Swirl platform.
    • Analyze market trends, customer insights, and competitor activities to identify opportunities for growth.
    • Assist in the planning and execution of regional and national sales campaigns.
  • Sales Enablement :
    • Work closely with the sales, technical support and leadership to support customer onboarding, in store sales and ongoing product support.
    • Deliver presentations, product demos, and training to customers to showcase the value of the Soft Swirl platform.
    • Participate in national and regional trade shows.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration :
    • Partner with marketing, operations, and product teams to align business development efforts with overall company objectives.
    • Provide feedback to the product team to improve equipment and product offerings based on customer insights.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Marketing, or a related field (preferred but not required).
  • 3–5 years of experience in business development, sales, or a similar role, in convenience stores, or CPG industries and at least two years in food service.
  • A plus would be selling bundled programs of equipment tied to consumable food products.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain strategic partnerships.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable strategies.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 and Sales Force
  • Travel 50% Ability to lift 40+ pounds.
  • Strong business acumen inclusive of leveraging the dynamics of ROI based selling.
